Mitten hinein in das Chaos bricht der attraktive Ire Tom, ein Neffe der Familie, und fortan dreht sich alles nur noch um ihn. Das Leben könnte so schön sein, wären da nicht Toms Eltern, die eine genaue Vorstellung davon haben, was sie für ihren Sohn wollen, und das ist ganz sicher keine protestantische Freundin. Wären da nicht das Abschlussjahr auf der katholischen Jungenschule, die Hauptrolle im Schul-Musical The Sound of Music, die übermächtige katholische Kirche, in deren strenge Regeln und Normen die Beziehung nicht hineinpassen will. Wäre da nicht die schwelende, bedrückende Animosität zwischen den beiden Familien. Als die Liebe sich dennoch gegen alle Widerstände durchsetzt und das Jahr in Irland sich dem Ende zuneigt, gilt es für Laura und Tom, eine Entscheidung zu treffen.
